DotA 101

You know you're addicted to something when other people start asking you about it.

Having said this, I can safely say that I AM kinda addicted to DotA (see previous post Ü).

In fact I'm teaching my fellow dormers how to play it. Even now they're probably playing at the other nearby computer shop.

To be honest, I don't really know why I liked the game at first. Peer pressure? Kinda. Graphics and all that stuff about game specs? Come on, there are way too many games with better graphics and all.

I like the fact that it's not one of those MMORPGs dominating our country's gaming scene, those games where you have to invest a lot (and I mean a looooooot) of time just to get by. I remember playing Ragnarok and hating the fact that I had to spend something like 4 or 5 hours a day just so I could keep levels with my classmates (stupid peer pressure... it gets on everybody's nerves...).

I also like the mind games behind the whole concept, kinda like the rock-paper-scissors theory behind the environment of games like M:tG and L5R. Being good at DotA takes analysis, and I kinda like analysing things people don't normally analyze.

Wala lang. Naaadik nga lang ata talaga ako.

Ranting About the "Love at First Sight" Phenomenon

Haven't posted for a while, I know. I don't know if this is because I've not had the urge to write anything lately, or because I'm annoyed at the fact that I can't post in this blog AND play DotA (for more, umm, info: http://www.dota-allstars.info/) at the same computer shop (damn computers there shut Explorer down when I log in to Blogger… annoying…).

I’ve noticed that I’ve been watching more local TV than normal lately (there’s only one TV in the dorm and the people there follow the series, so I often watch out of the fact that there’s nothing else to do). “Darna”, “Encantadia”, “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin”, that kind of thing. Funny thing about these shows is how they all show that über-cliché theme: LOVE. Yes, love/pagmamahal/amore/ai/whatever-you’re-used-to-calling-it. I also noticed that some if not most of these shows love playing around with that odd phenomenon commonly referred to as “Love at First Sight”. You know the drill: hunk meets babe and they instantly click, as if it was entirely serendipity’s fault (I love using big words). They'll get into a fight every now and then, but it’s true love from then on.

Weird, if you ask me.

Call me unusually rational, but I’ve actually formulated some sort of theory behind all this. It goes like this:
People see too much love-at-first-sight happen in TV today that there are some, in their inexperience, eventually start trying to “let it happen” to them, that their minds get molded into thinking that this is the way love is supposed to work.

Think about it. Haven’t there been times during your childhood when you see an “attractive” member of the opposite sex, then immediately get smitten by/get a crush on him/her? If yes, don’t worry, because you’re not alone. If no… well, I don’t know, to be honest.

I confess… there was one point in my life when I was “falling” for almost every girl I saw who wasn’t my relative; I had a crush on almost everybody, stuff like that. God, did that go wrong.

Nowadays, I like to consider myself more grown up though, having more or less, um, grown from that kind of thing.

Feel free to laugh at my stupidity then, because that’s what I’m doing right now. It's fun.
